Craiova

So we been in Romania for a little over a week. We were sent to the South of Romania, to a beautiful city call Craiova. Now I mention this because it is important. We learned that usually missionaries or people that want to open churches usually prefer the North of Romania. Since the South, especially Craiova is a heavy spiritual area.

A lecture we got on Romanian religions was that in the North of Romania 5% are believers and in the South .5%. Like true followers of Jesus who have been born again. Now 89% of the whole country are Orthodox. Craiova being in the South is full of Orthodox churches. 

Now when my team and I got to Craiova, we felt a heaviness. Now when we got to Romania, we saw the difference from Guatemala. In Guatemala everybody was super friendly. Now here in Romania is hard to find a stranger that says hello and smiles. So since I am always smiling and saying “Buna Ziua” (Hello) a lot of people look at me weird but I continue being friendly because they have to see something different in me. Now I gotten several hellos and smiles back and that makes everything worth it. At first it was hard but we have to understand they come from a communism background and their culture is so different.

Now in Craiova, many of my teammates have felt a heaviness and dark spirits all around. They have had nightmares and dark dreams. I had several teammates feeling angry, mad, sad, sick, lonely, and different feelings. And it is all because of this city. This city makes you feel something different. My team has always been praying and rebuking every night. I have also felt a heaviness, when I woke up at midnight one time. I also feel weird and a dark stronghold. I always have to be praying overmyself. Also every morning before ministry or anything we have worship for one hour. And that helps a lot.

Now we found out that the Orthodox church is mix with witch craft. They don’t see it as nothing bad or evil or dark but we know what God thinks about that. Now also we were told that there was a witch craft convention a couple of months ago in Craiova. So despite the darkness in this city, God brought my team and I to be light around them.

Ministry 

Now in Guatemala God taught me to evangelize, talk, and pray for people with the authority of the Holy Spirit. He took away the fear to evangelize and talk to people. But here in Romania God is taking away the fear of being rejected. I been rejected so many times. People don’t greet each other nor say hi nor smile. Several times when we mentioned church or God people have run away. So God is teaching me to change my tactics in how to evangelize or talk to people. In Guatemala I used to pray for many people in a day. Now one week in Romania I only been able to pray for two people, usually when I ask them they tell me you can pray for me on your own or no or they run away.

Now the Pastor of Hope church who we are serving taught us about evangelism here in Romania. He taught us several ways to talk to people and young people. He mentioned when we preach the good news who is Jesus we are doing God’s work. So if they accept the good news GLORY TO GOD and if they don’t GLORY TO GOD because we are doing God’s work. Now he said that sometimes your not going to share the gospel but your going to put a pebble. When you ask a deep question that will make them think about it.

Ministry: youths

Now I gone to evangelize almost everyday. The younger generation is more open. We have had good conversations with the young generation since they get all excited when they hear we are Americans. When they ask us what are we doing here I replied differently but with the truth to some I replied “I am here for a spiritual experience with Jesus” and that catches some youngsters attention to others “we are volunteers for the Hope church.” Now other times I don’t even mention God but just invite them to Saturdays game night. After the games and interacting this past Saturday one Romanian guy share his testimony. Usually I learn that the secret with the young people is connecting and developing a friendship.

Now during the youth game night, two youths I invited showed up and they brought friends. One of the guy who we invited during our first evangelize day, brought a girl who said at the end of the night “I won’t go to clubs anymore, instead I am going to come here.” GLORY TO GOD! Now the day we met the guy, we were walking around, but then I told my team “let’s stop here and see who God brings to us,” many people were walking but when I saw the young guy with earphones, I said what I was telling everybody “Buna Ziua” and he took off his earphones and we started talking, I am good at starting conversations but I was glad Lexy, Joana, and Fani (Spanish/Romania) were with me. Because they carry the conversation. We invited him to game night and he came and brough his friend who was impacted.

Ministry: older

Now to older people I always try to mention Jesus and that he loves them. A lot of the older people don’t speak English so I learn key words to tell them or use google translate. Sara a squad member asked an older guy who said he believe in Jesus: “has Jesus change your life?” He replied no and left but that was a pebble question. Its been harder with older people. One time when I was trying to give a flyer to a young group and older guy who wasn’t part of them, grab my arm that flip me around and started screaming angrily in Romanian, I just stood still because I was shocked.

Usually during evangelism I am always with someone different from the Squad. Since they are different roles (there are some that work with refugees from Ukraine). Later on we are going to have more roles and different projects and ministry to work in.

Ministry: Joshua walk

Now our Joshua walk ministry is once a week and the purpose is to walk around a university or place and intercede and pray over it.

Now Craiova is beautiful and clean and they care about fashion but it is a heavy spiritual city. But God call us to be light in this darkness and heavy city.

It is super cold here.

Also church in Romanian has been fun and interesting. I am out of my comfort zone but I met others that speak Spanish here. Also met other missionaries from Argentina, Poland, Germany, Kosova, Sweden, etc.

Craiova

Hemos estado en Rumania por poco más de una semana. Nos enviaron al sur de Rumania a una hermosa ciudad llamada Craiova. Ahora menciono esto porque es importante. Aprendimos que generalmente los misioneros o las personas que quieren abrir iglesias generalmente prefieren el norte de Rumania. El sur, especialmente Craiova es un área muy pesada espiritual.

Una clase que recibimos sobre las religiones rumanas nos dijieron que el Norte de Rumania el 5% son creyentes y en el Sur .5% (verdaderos seguidores de Jesús que han nacido de nuevo). Ahora el 89% de todo el país son ortodoxos. Craiova que esta en el Sur está llena de iglesias ortodoxas.

Ahora, cuando mi equipo y yo llegamos a Craiova, sentimos un peso. Ahora, cuando llegamos a Rumania, vimos la diferencia de Guatemala. En Guatemala todos eran muy amables. Ahora aquí en Rumania es difícil encontrar un extraño que salude con una sonrisa. Pero yo siempre estoy sonriendo y diciendo "Buna Ziua" (hola) y la gente me mira raro, pero sigo siendo amigable porque tienen que ver algo diferente en mí. Ahora recibí pocos saludos y sonrisas y eso hace que todo valga la pena. Al principio fue difícil, pero tenemos que entender que este pais fue libre del comunismo y su cultura es muy diferente.

Ahora en Craiova, muchos de mis compañeros de equipo han sentido un peso y espíritus oscuros por todas partes. Han tenido pesadillas y sueños oscuros. Varios compañeros de equipo se an sentido enojados, tristes, enfermos, solos, y diferentes sentimientos. Y todo se debe a esta ciudad. Esta ciudad te hace sentir algo diferente. Mi equipo siempre ha estado orando y reprendiendo todas las noches. Una madrugada me levante con un peso en mi pecho. También eh sentido una rara y fortaleza oscura. Siempre tengo que orar sobre mí mismo. También todas las mañanas antes del ministerio, tenemos adoración y alabanza por una hora. Y eso ayuda mucho. 

Ahora descubrimos que la Iglesia Ortodoxa está mezclada con brujeria. No lo ven como nada malo o oscuro, pero sabemos lo que Dios piensa al respecto. Ahora también nos dijeron que hubo una convención de brujeria hace un par de meses en Craiova. A pesar de la oscuridad en esta ciudad, Dios trajo a mi equipo y a mí a ser luz para esta ciudad.

Ministerio 

Ahora en Guatemala Dios me enseñó a evangelizar, hablar y orar por las personas con la autoridad del Espíritu Santo. Me quitó el miedo de evangelizar y hablar con la gente. Pero aquí, en Rumania, Dios me está quitando el miedo de ser rechazado. Me han rechazado muchas veces. La gente no saluda ni dice hola ni sonríe. Varias veces cuando mencionamos a la gente de Dios o iglesia an salido corriendo. Dios me está enseñando a cambiar mis tácticas sobre cómo evangelizar o hablar con la gente. En Guatemala oraba por muchas personas en un día. Ahora, una semana en Rumania, solo eh podido orar por dos personas, generalmente cuando les pregunto, me dicen puedes orar por mí en tus oraciones, o no, o salen corriendo.

El pastor de Hope Church, el ministerio que estamos sirviendo, nos enseñó sobre el evangelismo aquí en Rumania. Nos enseñó varias formas de hablar con personas y jóvenes. Mencionó cuando predicamos las buenas nuevas que es Jesús, estamos haciendo la obra de Dios. Entonces, si aceptan las buenas noticias, GLORIA A DIOS y si no GLORIA A DIOS porque estamos haciendo la obra de Dios. Ahora dijo que a veces no vamos a poder compartir el evangelio, pero podemos poner una piedra. Cuando hacemos una pregunta profunda que los haga pensar.

Ministerio: Jóvenes 

Hemos ido a evangelizar todos los días. La generación más joven es más abierta. Hemos tenido buenas conversaciones con los jovenes porque se emocionan cuando escuchan que somos Americanos. Cuando nos preguntan qué estamos haciendo aquí, respondo diferente respuestas, pero con la verdad. A algunos respondo: "Estoy aquí para una experiencia espiritual con Jesús" y eso llama la atención de algunos jóvenes, a otros "Somos voluntarios para la Iglesia Hope". Ahora, otras veces, ni siquiera menciono a Dios, sino que solo los invito los Sabados para noche de juegos. Este Sabado despues de los juegos e interactuando, un muchacho Rumano compartio su testimonio. Por lo general, aprendi que el secreto con los jóvenes es conectarse y desarrollar una amistad. 

Ahora, durante la noche de juegos juveniles, se presentaron dos jóvenes que invité y trajeron amigos. Uno de los muchachos que invitamos durante nuestro primer día de evangelización, trajo a una chica que dijo al final de la noche "Ya no iré a clubes, sino que voy a venir aquí". Gloria a Dios! Ahora, el día que nos encontramos con el joven, estábamos caminando, pero luego le dije a mi equipo "detengámonos aquí y veamos quién nos trae Dios", mucha gente caminaba, pero cuando vi al joven con audífonos, dije lo que les estaba diciendo a todos "buna ziua" y se quitó los audífonos y comenzamos hablar. Yo soy bueno para empezar conversaciónes pero Lexy, Joana, y Fani (Española/Rumana) llevaron la conversación. Lo invitamos a la noche de juegos y vino y trajo a su amiga que fue impactada.

Ministerio: Mayores

Ahora para las personas mayores siempre trato de mencionar a Jesús y que Él los ama. Muchas de las personas mayores no hablan inglés, así que aprendo palabras claves para decirles o usar Google Translate. Sara, del escuadrón, le preguntó a un hombre mayor que dijo que cree en Jesús: "Jesús ha cambiado tu vida?" Él respondió que no y se fue, pero esa fue una pregunta de piedra. Ha sido más difícil con las personas mayores. Una vez, cuando estaba tratando de darle un volante a un grupo de jovenes y un señor que no era parte de ellos, agarro mi brazo que me volteó y comenzó a gritar enojado en rumano, me quede quieto porque estaba en shock.

Por lo general, durante el evangelizar siempre estoy con alguien diferente del escuadrón. Como hay roles diferentes (hay algunos que trabajan con refugiados de Ucrania). Más adelante vamos a tener más roles y diferentes proyectos y ministerios para trabajar. 

Ministerio: Caminada de Josue

Ahora nuestro ministerio de Josué es una vez a la semana donde caminamos alrededor de una universidad o lugar intercediendo y orando.

Ahora Craiova es hermosa y limpia y les importa la moda, pero es una ciudad espiritual pesada. Pero Dios nos llama a ser luz en esta ciudad oscura y pesada. 

Así que por favor oren por todos nosotros. 

Esta muy frio aqui.

También la iglesia en rumano ha sido divertida e interesante. Estoy fuera de mi zona de conforme, pero conocí a pocos que hablan español aquí. También conocí a otros misioneros de Argentina, Alemania, Polonia, Kosova, Suecia, etc.
